Breakfast may or not be the most important meal of the day, but it is certainly one of the most beloved meals. Egg in the hole falls right into this category. It goes by many names: Egg in the hole, egg basket, egg toast, to name just a few. It's undoubtedly the simplest of almost any recipe you will make. When it's early and you want something good, egg in the hole will satisfy just about any breakfast craving. It is made in just a few simple steps. And today, for the first time in history, we are making the egg in the hole on our Baking Steel Mini.
Step 1: Slice a piece of thick bread and cut out a hole. Pre-sliced loaves work as well. Use a cookie cutter or just about anything you can find that is round.
Step 2: Warm up your Mini Griddle on medium heat. After a 5 minute warm-up, toss on the bread and toast for 2-3 minutes. Remove.
Step 3: Generously butter the Mini Griddle, and place toast side up back on the Griddle. Next you will crack an egg and pour the egg in the hole. If your not a risk taker, crack the egg and place in a bowl and then pour. Pre-cracking is a fail proof method if the yolk breaks you can try again. Let the egg cook for about 2-3 minutes, then season with salt and pepper.
Step 4: Carefully slide a spatula below to remove and place on a plate.
Remember that center piece? It makes for an egg-cellent piece of toast to dip in the middle. I was unfortunate, Fresh Chef Craig ate mine prior to the picture being snapped..
Enjoy,
