This past August, I was invited to attend "Battle of the Burgers," an event put on by Boston Magazine. The night kicked off with the "Home Griller Competition." Three finalists and their burgers were judged by some of Boston's bests, including Richard Chudy of Boston Burger Blog. I was invited by one of the contestants, who used the sous-vide method with a Baking Steel sear. I don't know of any other pizza stone that can sear like the Baking Steel. Needless to say, the burger was top notch.
A few days after the event, Richard Chudy reached out via Twitter, so of course, I sent him over a Baking Steel. When he gave us the thumbs up on our Steel, I invited him and his wife, Katie of Small Boston Kitchen, down to the test kitchen for a pizza and burger session.
I was nervous at first, after all, I was making a burger for the go-to burger guy in Boston. No pressure, ha! Luckily, the Baking Steel delivered and the smash burgers came out with a killer char. All I had to do is follow these steps for the smashburger.
It was finally time for some pizza. We started with a mozzarella and sausage pie, then we moved on to a mozzarella and pecorino cheese creation. We finished off the day with a breakfast pizza...because who doesn't like bacon?!
Richard and Katie were awesome guests to have stop by the Baking Steel. They are both very talented at what they do, I have a feeling their kitchen is a popular place to be!
