Every once in a while I am asked if the Baking Steel would work it's magic on a frozen pizza. The short answer is yes, very much so! In fact, the BEST way to cook a frozen pizza, is on the Baking Steel.
Typically at these get-togethers, beyond your basic cheese (which is always #1 with the kiddos), I get the most requests for an arugula and onion pizza. It's pretty simple, but the flavors are always spot-on!
We had a great pick from our farmer friends over at Langwater Farms the past few weeks. This week, we used early summer vegetables to top our spin on an east meets west pizza. These vegetables are gems, gorgeous in color and in taste.
What did we make first load of organic produce? We made a pizza topped with fresh pesto, radish and ricotta cheese....
The seeds add crunch and flavor, evoking the seasoning of an everything bagel minus the onion and garlic. I’ve since been sprinkling the seed mix on everything — toast, sandwiches, flatbread brushed with butter and crisped on the Baking Steel.

There are a lot of schools of thought on a whole wheat pizza crust. I've messed around with 100% whole wheat dough, and I wouldn't really call it pizza. An all wheat crust will have prevalent nutty flavors but the crust itself will become very dry and hard.

Today is National Pizza Day! Unfortunately, I just learned this yesterday. I had to get in the game, but there was one problem-I hadn’t prepared a fresh batch of dough. I took a peek in my fridge and found a dough that was dated, 1/24/15. Doing the math, this was a 15 day old pizza dough.
